The track was originally cinder. The upgrade to synthetic was completed in June 1999 as part of a ?10M development which includes an adjacent 200m indoor track. The track surface is Mondo Sportflex Super X Classic. It is proposed to build a stand sometime in the future. As of March 2004, the track has had its certification rescinded due to the track lifting.
