About

About Athletics Tracks

Athletics Tracks is an independent directory of UK running tracks. We list 617 tracks across 112 counties, along with 541 athletics clubs, and we keep the details current with help from the people who actually use them.

Why the site exists

Finding out something as basic as whether you can turn up and run on your local track is harder than it should be. The information is scattered across council leisure pages, club websites, PDF timetables and phone calls, and a lot of it is out of date. We put it in one place, in the same format for every track, so you can answer the question in a few seconds.

What's on a track page

Each listing covers the surface and lane count, the field event facilities, whether the track is floodlit, whether it holds a current World Athletics or UK Athletics certificate, opening times, charges where we know them, and whether the public can use it or access runs through a club. We also show the clubs based there, upcoming events, and the nearest other tracks if that one doesn't suit.

Where the information comes from

The listings began as a data import covering every track we could identify in the UK, drawn from public sources including governing body certification lists, local authority and leisure operator pages, and clubs' own websites. Since then it has been corrected and added to continuously. Event listings come from organisers and from our own imports, and club details from the clubs themselves where they have told us.

We are not affiliated with UK Athletics, World Athletics, England Athletics or any of the tracks and clubs listed here. Nothing on this site is an official record, and certification status in particular can change between a certificate lapsing and our finding out about it.

How we keep it accurate

Anyone with an account can suggest a correction from the page it applies to, upload a photo, or confirm that a detail is still right. Every submission is reviewed by us before it goes live, and contributors are credited by their username on our community page. Track owners and managers can claim a listing and maintain it directly.

We also run our own checks over the data, flagging listings where details contradict each other or where a certificate looks old enough to be worth confirming. Where we are not sure, we say so on the page rather than guessing. If you spot something wrong, the suggest an edit link on the track's own page is the fastest way to get it fixed.

Who runs it

Athletics Tracks is a small independent project, built and maintained in the UK and supported by Athletics Creative. It is not backed by a governing body, a leisure operator or a facilities company, which is why we can list a track honestly whether or not anyone is paying us.

How the site is paid for

The directory is free to use and always will be. It is funded by advertising and by sponsorship of individual listings, which is how the hosting, the maps and the time spent checking data get paid for. Advertising never affects how a track is described or where it appears in results, and sponsored placements are labelled as such. If you want to reach the athletics community, see advertise with us. How we handle cookies and advertising data is set out in our privacy policy.

Get in touch

Questions, corrections, data requests or press enquiries are all welcome through our contact form, or by email at [email protected]. We read everything, and we would rather hear that something is wrong than leave it wrong.
