Athletics Tracks ("we", "us") runs athleticstracks.co.uk, a directory of UK athletics tracks. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the site, why, and what choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information. If you register, we store your name, username, email address, and password (hashed — we never store it in plain text). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from them instead of asking you to set a password.
Content you contribute. Suggested edits, track photos and captions, track claims, and track suggestions you submit are stored along with your account, so we can review them and credit any points earned once approved.
Automatically collected information. Like most websites, our server logs record IP addresses and basic request information for security and troubleshooting. If analytics is enabled (see below), we also collect anonymised usage data — pages visited, approximate location from IP, device and browser type.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies:
- Essential cookies — keep you logged in and protect forms against cross-site request forgery. These are required for the site to function and can't be turned off.
- Analytics cookies (not currently active) — Google Analytics, so we can see which pages are useful and fix ones that aren't. Only set if you accept cookies via the banner shown on your first visit.
- Advertising cookies (not currently active) — Google AdSense, used to show and measure ads. Only set if you accept cookies via the banner.
You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser and reloading — the banner will reappear.
Third parties we use
- Google Analytics — site usage analytics (only with consent).
- Google AdSense — advertising (only with consent, and only once we're running ads).
- Mapbox — powers the maps and static map images on track pages.
- what3words — precise location addressing for tracks that have it.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — spam/bot protection on our registration form.
- TrackSlot — supplies event listings for tracks that use their booking system.
Each of these may process data under their own privacy policy when their part of the page loads or when you interact with it.
Why we process your data
Account and contributed content: to provide the service you've signed up for (performing our contract with you). Server logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working. Analytics and advertising cookies: your consent, given via the cookie banner — you can decline and still use the site fully.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your Profile page, which removes your personal details; contributed content that's already been approved and applied to a track listing (e.g. an implemented edit) may remain as part of that listing's history.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you can ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or object to how we process it. Most of this you can do yourself from your Profile page. For anything else, contact us at [email protected]. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you think we've mishandled your data.
Children
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if what we collect or how we use it changes, and update the date at the top.
