The running track in Bracknell began as cinder, and Tartan synthetic runways were in use here by May 1968, ahead of the full Tartan track that opened at Crystal Palace later that year. The Sport & Leisure Centre next door opened in 1967. Neil Macfarlane MP, Minister for Sport, opened the synthetic track and stadium on 9th September 1984 after a donation from John Nike of nearby Binfield, and the original surface was Resisport. Polytan PUR went down in 2000 and the track reopened that October, after which the internal long jump runway was grassed over and no longer exists. Bracknell AC have their club house next to the track. The Bracknell Forest website carries more detail on the Sport & Leisure Centre. Tentative plans for an indoor 200m track here were drawn up in 1998 but appear to have stalled.
