The running track at Connah's Quay started out as cinder and existed by at least 1974, when the host club Deeside AAC formed. The synthetic upgrade came in 1998 at a cost of £1.5 million, helped by Lottery funding through the Sports Council for Wales, for a consortium taking in Deeside College next door, Connah's Quay Nomads FC, who use the infield, Deeside AAC and Flintshire County Council. The Welsh Schools Finals in July 1998 were the inaugural meeting on the new facility, although the official opening came on 6th October 1998. The track was awarded the prestigious Celtic Games in 2001 and holds the Beaufort Park Deeside Games each July. The complex also has a well-equipped gym and a bar. The recently opened and impressive Flintshire Bridge is close by. A TV Gantry building stands on the back straight. Plans exist for an external throwing cage to stop damage to the infield during the football season, and a discus sized circle is already in place.
