This running track in Gatley lies behind Gatley Primary School in Scholes Park and is in reasonable condition. It formed part of a sports stadium and playing fields built in the early 1960s with money from the William Scholes Foundation, named after a wealthy Gatley resident who died in 1927. The track opened on 19th May 1962 as the original home of Cheadle and Gatley AC, who merged with Stretford AC in 1966. The playing fields were first called William Scholes Playing Fields, though the name now appears to be simply Scholes Park. Manchester AC held open meetings here in the 1960s. The main long jump and triple jump runway inside the back straight, the high jump area and the javelin are all black synthetic, while the combined pole vault and triple jump runway inside the first bend has a hard asphalt surface.
