More about Stanley Park Athletics Arena
The running track in Blackpool started out as cinder in the 1960s and went synthetic in 1987, gaining floodlights and a pavilion at the same time. May 2000 brought patching, cleaning, a respray and fresh markings, along with relaid throwing areas and a bigger landing area around the pole vault bed for safety. A new throwing cage was due later that year, specially designed to stand up to the strong winds that can blow in off the nearby coast. The photos come courtesy of Blackpool & Fylde AC.
