The original cinder running track at Clayton-le-Moors is believed to date from the early 1970s and apparently had eight narrow lanes, so it may only be 6 or 7 proper ones. The synthetic upgrade came in 2004 at a cost of £460K, with the largest share of the funding, £231.5K, from the East Lancashire Partnership's Regional Park Project. High jumper Susan Jones officially opened it on 30th June 2004. GK Thorntons were the main contractors. Management is shared between the Leisure in Hyndburn Trust, Hyndburn AC and the Borough Council, who take on maintenance of the facility. The track lies just east of the A680 in the north of town.
