More about Exeter Arena Athletics Stadium
The running track in Exeter opened on 24th May 1992, built on the site of the old Devon County Showground, originally with a Spurtan BS synthetic surface. Reception is in the grandstand building, which also holds a gym. The Exeter Harriers clubhouse, separate from the grandstand, went up in 1993. The track is designated the South West's regional athletics stadium and is a most impressive facility, with very helpful and friendly staff. One interesting extra is a 4 lane 60m straight outside the first bend, with pits off the end of the two outer lanes. The infield is a football pitch used by junior sides, though throwing is permitted in winter. The English Schools came here in 1998 and 2001. Fox Sports Surfaces resurfaced the track in autumn 2001 with Conica Conipur 322, and Athletics Markings Ltd. remarked the lines. There are plans for an 82m indoor straight here.
