The running track in Catford was originally cinder and is believed to have opened in 1937, as its pavilion was identical to the one at Tooting Bec, which opened that year. MPs Joan Ruddock and Jim Dowd opened the synthetic track on 5th December 1997. Blackheath Harriers used it for open meetings in the 1960s.
