The running track in Enfield started out as cinder and became synthetic in 1979 with 8 lanes all round. Recreational Services Ltd. resurfaced it with Polyflex 942 in July 1990. The infield sits slightly above the track surface around most of the circuit. An arson attack in 2000 completely gutted the clubhouse near the finish, though the stand came through it. To try to achieve a full track certification, the main discus and hammer cage was moved by the start of the 2001 season, from the far corner to the centre of the top bend D, and the cage near the 1500m start was removed, which leaves javelin possible only from the first bend D. The track apparently closed on health and safety grounds from 2008 to 2011, and was rebuilt as a 6 lane all round track in 2010. Enfield FC moved into the stadium in 2011.
