More about Bricket Wood Sports Centre Track
In the early 1960s Sir David Yule sold the whole estate where this running track near St. Albans now lies to a US religious organisation. They built a university here for American children, along with the track, swimming pool and Sports Centre beside it. The university closed in the late 1970s and CEGB bought the site in 1980 for use as a staff training college, leasing the track and Sports Centre to the local council. National Power, CEGB's successor, sold the training college around 1993, though whether the land including the track was sold or leased to the council isn't clear. HSBC use the training college now. The track is in fair condition but has some weeds and obviously doesn't get much use. The infield is a football pitch.
