More about Gateshead International Stadium Indoor Track
This indoor straight sits within a training hall for sprints and jumps at the Gateshead International Stadium. It isn't dedicated to athletics, as the sports hall gets heavy use for 5-a-side, basketball and the like. It runs across two rooms, and a large steel shutter door has to be raised to get the full distance. That distance is wall to wall, so realistically it only works for 50m sprints. The jumps pit has given trouble from day one, and raising the lid is a major logistical exercise. A better indoor running track, which will be the indoor athletics centre for the North East region of the English Institute of Sport, is being built east of the stadium.
