Work on this running track in Birmingham began on 9th June 1975 and it opened for training in June 1976, surfaced originally in 3M Tartan. The complex, at that point just the track and the Main Stand, came fully into use on 1st April 1978, with the official opening meeting on 11th June 1978. Polytan PUR went down in 2000 under a £1 million improvement programme that also brought a new centre green. This ranks among the UK's premier athletics stadiums and has hosted the AAA championships in recent years. The Main Stand has no disabled access, although the other two do. A steeplechase water jump barrier built in 2000 adjusts for both length and height. The track has its own website. Plans for an indoor facility here were reported, to be built sometime in 2001.
