This running track in Dagenham is in fair condition and clearly still in use, with 6 lanes marked out although it's really only 5 lanes wide. A 6 foot spiked fence surrounds it, with a few gaps in it. It's notable for being 440y, which puts the 400m start in front of the finish. One straight carries a sprint extension, suggesting it was once the home straight, but the track has been marked out with that as the back one. The infield is a grass pitch, probably used for football in winter. All the runways and sand pits inside the track have been grassed over, although the remnants of a synthetic run up and pit survive just outside it. Essex Beagles used the track until 1953. Dagenham FC played at the ground, and there used to be a stand, demolished in the 1980s. Three rows of overgrown terracing still run alongside what serves as the home straight.
