This running track in Dagenham started out as cinder, with the opening meeting on 1st September 1951, and gained a Spurtan BS synthetic surface in summer 1990. It lies just east of the Barking postal district, so it's in Dagenham, though people commonly place it in Barking. You'll find it behind the football ground of Barking FC, with the car park entrance on Lodge Avenue. In August 2001 it went temporarily out of use for meetings and distance training after roots from poplar trees next to the arena caused damage across a 60m section of one bend. Work to put that right began in August 2002 and the track reopened that November. In 2014 the name changed from Mayesbrook Park Arena to the Jim Peters Arena.
