More about West Suffolk Athletics Arena
The running track in Bury St. Edmunds was built on a grass field right next to the Leisure Centre and officially opened by Roger Black on 14th September 1997. It replaced a cinder track on the field behind the back straight, which was grassed over once this one went in. The track sits on the grounds of King Edward VI School, who use it regularly, but it's managed from the Leisure Centre. The English Schools Champs came here in 1999. The surface is the non porous synthetic type, although the green areas in both Ds are porous. A curbside pacing system called Pacemetre, which works with flashing lights, was officially launched on 21st October 1998 and is currently the only such system in the world. Omer Products designed and market it.
